Story
I'm dressing up for this year’s Dare to Wear Day!
I will be dressing up in the uniform I wore for my first job.
As soon as I reached the ‘official’ working age of 14 and ¾ years, I went to my local bakery, proudly holding a type-written resume and asked for a job. I was so nervous and scared.To my surprise, they hired me! And my career in selling yummy baked goods began.
Dare to Wear Day supports Fitted for Work, a not-for-profit organisation which helps women experiencing disadvantage get work and keep it building skills and confidence through interview training, mentoring, transition to work programs, and a free business clothes outfitting service.
75% of women who visit Fitted for Work are employed within 3 months, so this is a very worthwhile cause to support!
In recognition of the courage that characterises so many vulnerable women experiencing disadvantage and looking for work, I am going to dress up on Dare to Wear Day on March 15. Fitted for Work
Transform the lives of women experiencing disadvantage!
Fitted for Work is an innovative not-for-profit organisation and the first of its kind in Australia. Our vision is financial independence for women and our mission is to help women experiencing disadvantage get work and keep it. Since 2005 we have assisted over 12,000 courageous women step out of disadvantage and into work through our personal outfitting, transition to work and mentoring programs. Our services are practical and effective. Today 75% of the women we help get work within 3 months. We have sites in Melbourne, Morwell and Sydney. Women are referred to us by over 300 community partners. The women we assist face a variety of obstacles – they may be exiting a domestic violence situation, experiencing homelessness, temporarily experiencing ill-health that prevents them from working, have a disability or have become recently widowed or divorced. Many are single mothers who need to support themselves and their family. Every day our dedicated team of 14 staff and over 250 volunteers help women gain the self-esteem and confidence to achieve their goal of sustainable employment.,
